    that this act, …
that this act, INCLUDING THE REGULATIONS (i.e. breeding, transporting, etc etc) will NOT affect ANYONE except those who want dangerous animals such as tigers, venomous snakes, alligators or even those giant constrictors that are so often released into the wild.

I’m thinking this will end up excluding tropical fish, hamsters, ferrets (possibly) etc etc.

Can’t say I’m against this, or for it.

    SPECIFICALLY FROM …
    SPECIFICALLY FROM THE BILL:

    (f) ANIMALS OWNED LAWFULLY PRIOR TO PROHIBITION OF IMPORTATION.—*****This Act and regulations issued under this Act***** shall not interfere with the ability of any person to possess an individual animal of any species if such individual animal was legally owned by the person before the risk essment is begun pursuant to subsection (e)(3), even if such species is later prohibited from being imported under the regulations issued under this Act.”

    Which means….

    that is correct …
that is correct YoDudeRock, unfortunately though the federal government goes against that A LOT. There’s always the chance a case dealing with H.R. 669 or a bill like it could make it to the supreme court and be found unconstitutional, but I doubt it would. Such a case would be huge because it would bring into question the constitutionality of a lot of other trade and property related laws, I don’t think that those are issues that our government wants to have to confront.

    I am supporting H. …
I am supporting H. R. 669, Im sure these animals would rather be in the wild than be in a cage or behind glass, not to mention the few that can’t take care of them and let them loose. Like the burmese python in the florida everglades that were set loose and now devastating native animals

I love all my pets, all 10 of them. they’re family when means I take good care of them every day, I mean I have a Hamster that’s at least two. I would never want to give them up

This is a tough one …
This is a tough one… on one hand, you have irresponsible people who take in large, wild exotic animals and have no concept of how to care for them (at which time they’re either euthanized or allowed to escape into the wild)… and on the other, there are responsible pet owners with smaller, fairly domesticated critters who may be affected. They really should be more specific.

  18. JaredSS1994 on July 3rd, 2009 2:35 am

    if congress passes …
if congress passes the bill GOOD cuz non native animals are a BIG problem if they get loose

    Some Canadian says …
Some Canadian says it on YT, and you believe it, & are ready to leave the country? Good grief! Think for yourself; you can’t believe every yahoo on YT! I did go to Catholic school, and based on this discussion it’s Catholic school for the win! The Obama girls go to private school, for god’s sake.

The gov’t is always trying to figure out how Catholic schools have much better results w/ much less money. They’re not going to close them down! They don’t use taxpayer money!

  23. mimi2957 on July 3rd, 2009 2:35 am

    There is no truth …
There is no truth to that whatsoever. So silly! Are many of your fellow Canadians as gullible as you?

  24. mimi2957 on July 3rd, 2009 2:35 am

    The Supreme Court …
The Supreme Court decides what the constitution says, and there is no possible way they would interpret it as you have. My guess is they would probably say this falls under the commerce clause and / or the necessary and proper clause. They would be right. It’s ridiculous to say that the federal government can’t protect the environment. Don’t be one of those a “little knowledge is a dangerous thing” guys who believe they know better than us pros. This argument is a loser.

  25. YoDudeRock on July 3rd, 2009 2:35 am

    Their only …
Their only legitimate function is to clear the deck for freedom and protect the life, liberty and property of the individual so they can pursue happiness.
